Hey love, My name is Heather, the Author behind written in hearts. I have always loved having short, meaningful conversations with my children — the kind that open doors to important topics and help them feel seen and understood. But if you’re a parent, you probably know how hard it can be to come up with those conversations on the spot!
One day I was reading a scripture passage and the phrase said, "Written on hearts." I realized that some conversation can be more powerful than other's. there are ones we hear that truly moves us, they don't just pass through our minds; they stay with us. It becomes written in our hearts. Those truths, lessons, and moments of love or understanding shape who we are and guide us long after the words are spoken.
That’s what I hope Written in Hearts does — helps create those moments of truth that stay with our children, written deep in their hearts to be remembered and carried with them throughout their lives and can help guide their path.
I’ve always believed that talking about important topics early on can empower our kids throughout their lives. As my girls started getting older, the topic of smartphones naturally came up. The more I learned about not just smartphones but smart devices in general, the more anxious I became. The online world can be a wonderful place — full of learning, creativity, and connection — but it can also be scary.
When I was younger, I had a frightening experience because of smart devices that could have ended much worse. And as I began talking with other parents, I realized I wasn’t alone — many had their own stories of how technology had impacted their families, sometimes in ways they never expected.
Still, I knew that smart devices weren’t all bad. They have incredible potential when used wisely. I wanted to help my girls learn to use them in healthy, intentional ways — the same way we slowly prepare our children to drive cars safely at the right age and with the right training.
So, I started searching for the right conversations to have. I wanted something simple and practical, something that could help guide our family discussions. But I quickly discovered there wasn’t one single resource that brought everything together in an easy, conversational way.
What began as a small family project turned into four years of research and creation — and eventually became Let’s Chat: Smart Devices, a 31-day conversation book designed to help parents and children talk about technology in a positive, empowering way.
Each short daily chat covers an important topic, helping kids build awareness, confidence, and boundaries online — especially when parents can’t always be there to manage every moment.
Writing this book has been such a gift to our family. It has sparked countless meaningful conversations with my girls and given me peace knowing they’re learning how to make wise choices in a connected world.
I hope to continue the conversation from one heart to another...
With Love,
Heather
